This event is dedicated to creating a Massachusetts model of national and international leadership in prostate cancer education and awareness. 

At the Breakfast, we will share AdMeTech’s work in ending the unacceptable status of care for prostate cancer, which is more common and lethal than even breast cancer in our state. With 2.5 times higher mortality in Black (including Hispanic) men, prostate cancer has emerged as a leading health care disparity. 

According to the report from the Department of Public Health issued in January 2015 and called “Massachusetts Deaths 2012”,  the disparities in the mortality of prostate cancer are greater compared to any other malignancies, diabetes, stroke or heart diseases. As you know, in 2009, AdMeTech Foundation brought together the key leaders of the Massachusetts legislation, medicine, advocacy and grass roots to establish an Annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Day at the Massachusetts State House. This effort has led to: 

• Establishment of a historic precedent in 2011, when prostate cancer was recognized as a public health priority, central issue in men’s health and a major health care disparity;
• Creation of state programs, which allocated:

1. a)  $1.5M for a clinical trial in prostate MRI to improve early detection in 2013; and 
2. b) $500,000 for education and awareness campaign in 2014 and 2015.

The goal of our efforts in education and awareness is to bring the cutting-edge advances in patient care from the world-leading hospitals to the most vulnerable and under-served men. Our focus is on high risk individuals, including men with African and Hispanic heritage, family history and increasing age, as well as their caregivers and physicians.

The effective partnerships with leaders of medicine, industry, government, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Massachusetts Prostate Cancer Coalition, New England Area Conference of NAACP, faith-based congregations and other key regional and national organizations have been essential for our efforts.

The Kick-Off Breakfast is organized to expand public-private partnerships for making Massachusetts a national champion in ending prostate cancer as a public health crisis and a leading disparity.
