This retrospective study demonstrated that mpMRI improved selection of patients for AS. Indeed, it showed that patients with suspicious lesions on mpMRI had a four-fold increase in the risk of Grade upgrading at subsequent biopsies (than did patients without such lesions).

This study developed a successful original approach for ex vivo MRI of prostate tissue samples and its correlation with pathology at very high field strength. This work had led to new approaches to novel in vivo MRI for the prostate expected to improve sensitivity and specificity for detection of high Gleason score (aggressive) lesions and to pathologic tissue analysis using high resolution 3D ex vivo MR images.
